Tips To Keep Your Hair extensions Healthy

Hair extensions are a wonderful way to add highlights, thickness or simply make your hair longer. While they can improve your look dramatically, if they’re not taken care of properly, they won’t do much for you. These simple tips will help you take the best care of your hair extensions so that they will last a long time and you will get your moneys worth.

  1. Be gentle. One of the most important things about hairextensions is that you have to baby them. When you are brushing your hair, be gentle. Without the proper treatment, your hair extensions will get damaged quickly.
  2. Wash with moisturizing hair care products. This step is especially important if you are using clip in hair extensions because the hair will not get any of the moisture from the natural oils your scalp produces. Moisturizing hair care products will keep your hair healthy. If you are longing for shine, use a serum. Many hair care products that promote shine have a drying affect on hair.
  3. Don’t forget to deep condition. Once a week you want to deep condition your hair extensions. Leave it on the hair for approximately 20 to 30 minutes and rinse. This extra TLC will give your hair an extra moisturizing boost.
  4. Keep those ends trimmed. No matter what you do, your hair extensions will inevitably get split ends. The best way to keep split ends from getting out of control is to regularly trim them. Trim the ends of the hair every 6 to 10 weeks. Keep in mind that you don’t want to trim too much, otherwise you will quickly lose the length of your hair. You can either do it yourself or have a professional trim them.
  5. Use a heat protectant. When drying your hair extensions you will need to take extra care. There are a number of heat protective sprays that you can buy but it is wise to turn down the level of heat on your hairdryer to prevent damage. This simple step will prevent breakage and keep your locks looking great a lot longer.
  6. Moving around in your sleep can leave hair extensions tangled and knotty. It can be time consuming and painful to remove these tangles and it can damage your extensions. Tie your hair up in a loose bobble before you go to sleep and this will help to keep your extensions tangle free.
  7. If you are planning on going abroad, swimming pool water, sand and the sun can cause havoc with your hair. If you do want to go swimming, it is wise to ensure that your extensions stay dry as the chlorine in the pool can cause your hair to become discoloured. The salt in the sea can cause your extensions to become matted and tangled. Try to keep hair covered to protect your extensions from the heat of the sun.
  8. Visit your stylist every four to six weeks to have the extensions lifted back up your scalp.

Follow these tips to keep your hair looking Healthy throughout the year.

Hand Tied Weft VS Machine Weft

A hand-tied weft is essentially a seam that holds all of the base ends of the hair together and is manually woven into the weave by a human and custom attention is given to each weave whereas a machine weft is hair that is fed into a machine and weaved tightly into the seam, this happens in a manner similar to that of the sewing machine.

Benefits of a hand-tied weft :-
  1. Firstly, the hand-tied weft is usually significantly slimmer than the standard machine-tied weft and the slimmer the weft the easier it is to hide and less-likely for someone to detect if they touch your head. Hair that is machine-wefted tends to be bulkier because the weave itself needs to be hefty so the machine can get a good enough hold of the hair. This is an important factor because no-one wants anyone to see or feel their weave; it is the horrid tell sign of hair extensions.
  2. Secondly, another great benefit of hand-tied hair extensions is that the hair on a hand-tied weft is much more securely attached to the weft. This means that each strand of hair will remain attached to the weft much longer than their counterparts which are machine-sewn. Hair from hand-tied wefts does not shred because of this and therefore the hair extensions last longer. They don't thin out like machine-wefted hair extensions therefore have a much longer life span.
However, since they are harder to make and they take longer time to complete, they usually cost a bit more.

Differences:
  • The weft of machine tied hair is thicker than hand-tied weft and it seems easier for weaving than hand-tied ones. Hand-tied weft is micro thin and barely visible, so it is more undetectable and flexible, but not many hair stylists know how to weave the hand-tied hair appropriately. So, you'd better consult your hair stylist first before ordering.
  • Hand tied wefts are made by tying strands of hair around a strong weaving thread; this process is done by hand. Our hand tied wefts are much thinner than machine wefts because of the precision involved, and lay flat on the scalp. Machine wefts are made by sewing strands of hair together with a hair sewing machine.
  • Hand-tied wefts are tufts of hair sewn or tied together meticulously by hand using a strong piece of weaving thread. If they are done properly, hand-tied wefts can actually last a very long time.  Another thing that as good with hand-tied wefts is that they are not very bulky or noticeable when you put them on.
  • Hand-tied wefts are thinner and more flexible than machine-tied wefts. The weft is flatter and allows the Remy hair extensions to lay closer to the head giving a more natural look. As the hair underneath grows the flexibility of hand-tied wefts helps to keep the weft from sticking out from the undergrowth. Typical hand-tied wefts come in pieces about 24 inches in width. When sewn in, they can be folded over to best fit the track. The weft is flexible so it will not stick out or cause lumpy areas around the crown. Micro hand-tied wefts are another option found mainly in Asian hair. These wefts come in 8 to 10 inch pieces with wefts sewn closer together. High quality hand-tied wefts tend to last longer without shedding when they are put in by an experienced technician.
  • Machine wefts are easier to use and can be found in most hair supply stores. They are the most common type used. Indian Remy hair made with a machine weft can be soft and somewhat flexible. Machine weft hair will also last a long time without shedding. These wefts are easier to put in as the stylist can simply start on one end, sew in the weft, and then cut it at the end of the track. Machine wefts also work well when using clip-on wefts, or when bonding the hair to the scalp.

Buying Hair Extensions? "Learn How Much Hair Volume To Add"

Once women understand the different types of hairextensions and their many methods of application, they can then move on to determining how much hair they actually need to purchase. As a general rule, the average head needs about 100 to 120 strands of hair extensions to complete the process; however, different brands come packaged with different strand amounts, and weft hair is determined differently, which further complicates matters. Overall, the hair amount will depend on a number of things, such as the wearer’s natural hair features, as well as the type of hair she plans to purchase.

Hair Length

Women should first consider their desired hair length when trying to assess how much hair to buy for extensions. Buyers may purchase longer strands of hair, but they should be aware that the longer the strand, the smaller the width, which makes for thin hair. A buyer wishing to purchase longer hair extensions will need more strands than a buyer wishing to purchase shorter ones.

Hair Thickness

Next, women need to consider their own hair’s natural thickness before buying extensions. If the buyer’s hair is thin, she will need to purchase more strands or thicker wefts in order to get their desired look.

Strand or Weft

Lastly, women will need to decide whether they want  single strand or weft hair before deciding how much hair to buy. If they wish to purchase weft hair, they will need to assess its weight, which should average anywhere between 75 to 250 grams, based on hair length. If they wish to purchase single strands, the average is about 100-120 strands per head.

Methods Of Application Of Hair Extensions

Hair extensions can be applied in myriad ways. Some methods can be done at home, while some methods require that a professional do it.

A skin weft tape in hair extension differs from other methods of applying hair extensions in that no glue is used in the application process. Instead, double-sided tape is used to secure sections of human hair to one’s head. The weft process is simple and quick, reusable, and will last up to six weeks. The tape is invisible and the hair can be colored and styled like one’s own hair. Because of the ease with which this type of extension can be applied, they can be applied at home with the assistance of a friend.

Bonding
When one is interested in adding volume or colored hair extension streaks for a temporary look that will allow them to experiment with different hairstyles, bonding is a good choice. With this method, small tracks of hair are glued to the scalp at the root of the hair. This is a temporary extension that is good for about a week. The extension is secured to the hairline with one of two types of hair glue.

Tracking

Tracking involves the application of hair extension to concentric circles of braided hair on the head. Eight to fifteen rows can be sewn to the concentric braids, depending upon how much fullness or length is desired.

Fusion

Fusion is a very versatile, natural-looking type of hair extension. With this method, hair is glued to natural hair with a glue gun, which provides a very natural look. This is a very costly and time-consuming method of applying hair extensions, but the extensions can be treated like natural hair.
Netting
Netting extensions involves the application of human or synthetic hair extensions by sewing extensions to a net that is covering the natural hair. Care must be taken when washing this type of extension as the hair can start developing mildew under the extension if it is not thoroughly dried each time the hair is washed.

Tree Braiding

This method is also called the ‘cornrow method’. Extensions are braided into existing hair that has been braided into cornrows.

Clip-In and Clip-On Hair Extensions

Clip-on hair extensions are temporary but do not have any of the disadvantages other types of extensions may have. Extensions of human or synthetic hair are sewn to toupee clips that are then clipped to the natural hair. One can wear clip-ons for long periods of time, take them off or put them on easily, and they are very comfortable to wear.

Micro Braiding

With micro braiding, long hair extensions are merged into the hair by braiding human or synthetic hair sections in with one’s own hair, incorporating the braid directly into the hair without glue or tape. It is time consuming as a complete application can take up to 15 hours to complete, but the extensions will last for several months using this application method.

Natural Human Hair Extensions vs. Synthetic Hair Extensions

With such stressed lives that we lead these days, it’s no wonder that many people deal with hair loss and baldness. Luckily, the market offers a great variety of products that can help cope with this illness and recoup self-confidence. Among many lotions and natural remedies, we would like to point out hair extensions as a perfect solution to hair loss. Hair extensions can be either human hair extensions or synthetic ones. Both kinds different from one another in terms of durability and maintenance. But both types of hair extensions are perfect for adding volume to hair and are ideal for people with thinning hair. Hairextensions can completely transform your look in just a few hours.

  • The main advantage of real hair is that it is far easier to look after. There is no need to treat it any differently to your own hair and it looks and feels so natural that even a trained eye cannot tell you are wearing them (when they are expertly applied). When left to dry naturally they dry with the same natural kink/wave that most people's hair dries with, meaning it blends easily without even the need for styling. Another major advantage is that there is no restriction with styling. You can use straightening irons and curling tongs freely which is not the case with synthetic hair. You also have the option of dying the real hair which is not possible with fake hair. For these reasons the celebrities usually opt for the real hair.
  • Because human hair extensions are actual human hair, they have the same shade and texture of natural hair. Real hair extensions can be purchased to completely match and blend with one’s natural hair. Synthetic hair extensions are not real hair and the quality may not be quite what one is used to or expecting. There is a possibility that the extensions will not completely match natural hair in colour or texture.
  • Real hair extensions can be styled in exactly the same manner as one’s own hair, with the same products and styling tools. Real hair extensions can be cared for exactly like natural hair. They can be washed the same way by using mild shampoo, conditioners, and heat protectors can be applied for styling. These hair extensions can be styled and curled like natural hair because they are real hair like one’s own hair. Synthetic hair extensions cannot be styled with the same heated styling tool that are used on real hair extensions. This is because when exposed to heat sources, synthetic hair melts. For instance, one cannot use heated curling irons to curl synthetic hair as the hair will melt. However, they are much easier to style and due to ‘memory technology’ hold a curl for quite a long time. It is possible to wash and condition synthetic hair extensions as one would their own hair, but remember not to blow them dry, but let air dry hair after washing. Detangling sprays can be used on synthetic hair extensions to stop frizz. Skin Weft Tape in Hair Extensions

Difference Between Curly & Wavy Hair Extensions

"Curly hair" and "wavy hair" are often used interchangeably, but the hair types have several differences. Curly types and wavy types of hair differ in curl tightness, thickness and textures.

Although curly hair and wavy hair are thought by many people to be the same, wavy hair is actually a type of curly hair. The three main categories of curly hair are curly, wavy and kinky. Curly hair is often thought of as coarse in texture, but it is actually soft. It also has a reputation for being thick; while that is often true, curly hair also can be fine. Kinky hair is the tightest curl type specific to people of African descent.

Even if curls are fine in texture, curly hair has a thick appearance. The curls often begin at the scalp and keep their shape down to the hair tips,  Wavy hair is often wavy at the bottom and flat closer to the scalp

People with waves or curls should use a diff-user when blow drying their hair. Diff-users are hairdryer attachments that diffuse the air. As a result, curls are not blown straight or turned to frizz in the drying process. To keep curls tight, a low hairdryer setting is preferable while scrunching hair between fingers and oscillating the dryer. After drying, mousse or pomade can be applied, giving curls and waves body rather than weighing them down. Curls should never be combed or brushed when dry.

Steps To Be Followed To Color Or Dye Human Hair Extensions at Home

  • Need to buy hair dye, developer, gloves, and an applicator bottle from a beauty supply store or salon.
  • Gently comb through your extensions to get rid of any tangles and if you have any styling products on your extensions, it’s important to wash them out first as well. After washing and combing out the extensions make sure they dry thoroughly. Since using a hair dryer is not recommended, allow them to dry overnight before applying the hair dye the next day.
  • Next prepare the hair color mixture. Put on your gloves and mix up the right amount of hair color and developer together. After pouring your hair dye and developer into the applicator bottle, mix them up together by shaking the bottle for about one minute.
  • Now it’s time to coat every single strand of your hair extensions with the hair dye. In this case it’s a better idea to use too much dye rather than not using enough. Use a comb to distribute the hair dye while applying it. Once you’re done applying the dye, place the extensions on a hair towel and read the instructions so that you know how long they need to remain on the towel.
  • After allowing the extensions to soak in the dye for the allotted amount of time,  it’s time to rinse the hair dye out of the extensions. Use warm water and afterwards apply conditioner. It’s also important to comb through the hair extensions after applying the conditioner for even application.
  •  After gently combing through the extensions, wash the conditioner out using cold water. This will seal in the hair color and make the hair shiny. For a final step either use a blow-dryer to dry the hair extensions or allow them to air-dry.

She will then sew the human hair extensions onto the braids. This is a very effective way to place extensions and if properly maintained can last up to eight weeks.

  • The pros for sew in extensions include the ease of placement, long lasting and when placed correctly undetectable. You can wash and style sew in extensions just like your natural hair.
  • The cons may include breakage if the braids are done too tightly, buildup of oil and dirt of you don't wash your hair regularly and it does take some time to braid your hair.

Locking Human Hair Extensions:

Locking extensions are also an effective way to add length and volume to your hair. The extensions are placed in your hair by a process which attaches the wefts to your natural hair and are also completely undetectable if done correctly.

  • The pros to locking extensions include the durability of the process, you can style your extensions along with your natural hair with curling or flat irons, and when properly maintained can last eight weeks or more.
  • The cons to locking human hair extensions may include damage to your natural hair if your stylist is not properly trained and certified, and a buildup of dirt and oil if you don't wash your hair often enough.
Talk to your stylist if you're interested in having sew in or locking extensions. Use only high quality human hair extensions for the best results. Your stylist will give you an expert consultation to determine which type of placement method is best for your hair. Get the hair you always wanted with sew in or locking human hair extensions.

Glue In Hair Extension Process

If you are considering having glue in hair extensions then there are some important guidelines and steps that you will need to follow to ensure that you are properly caring for your extensions. This is very important and can also add to the life of your glue in hair extensions.

Achieving the look we always want could be done nowadays. However, you need to do not forget that using hair extensions may either cause you to look more beautiful or otherwise. Extensions don’t simply increase the length of hair as it can also add volume as well. Listed here are the things which you should remember concerning how to manage your glue in hair extensions or glue in hair extensions care prior to deciding to get one:

• Hair extensions can easily be shampooed such as a normal hair. If you’re using an artificial hair extension, some manufacturers will require you, a wig shampoo or perhaps a mild one.

• Some kinds of extensions will recommend a specific type of shampoo. Procedures in brushing, combing and drying it will also be provided. Other hair extensions will also prohibit you in using a dryer.

• Human hair extensions needs to be treated more gently as they are prone to be damaged easily. You will need to use a mild shampoo and decreasing the tangles also requires a light conditioner. To stop matting and excessive tangling you should shampoo it with cool water. Don’t remove the snarls and tangles mainly because it will loosen the foundation of the sealing which will also result in damaging your hair.

• Choose the proper texture along with the same style as your hair when using an artificial extension. It can shorten the lifespan of your artificial hair if you utilize heat to straighten it or make it curly.

When it comes to de-tangling your hair, it will be in your best interest to use a large toothed comb because this will make combing easier. You will however need to avoid trying to comb from the root because this is where your extensions are and you will only be tugging the extensions which can be pretty painful.

If you are using synthetic hair extensions you are going to need to avoid using any heat on your hair because this can cause the hair to melt. But if you are using real human hair extensions then you can blow dry away.

Washing your hair will only cause potential problems. This isn’t too long a time to go without washing your hair unless you want to have to re-do or have the extensions put back in. Also, when you go to bed at night you are going to want to wrap a silk scarf around your hair to help them from rubbing together and being pulled out in addition to avoiding possible tangling.

If you think you can handle glue in hair extensions advice and also the upkeep of using a hair extension, then, now you can go to your salon to have it set up for you. However, if you feel, it’s such a hassle; your money will just be wasted if you cannot handle the responsibilities of caring for your hair extension.

Virgin Remy Wefted Hair Extensions

A hair weft is an extension of the hair designed to make one's hair appear thicker or longer. This type of hair piece is particularly popular among teenagers and young adults, though they are accessible for most ages. Both synthetic hair pieces as well as human hair pieces are used to make hair wefts.

Another term often used in place of hair weft is hair curtain. This is due to the curtain-like appearance of the weft itself. Unlike many other types of hair extensions, hair wefts are usually long sections of hair that are glued to the scalp or attached in another manner. Though many hair wefts are straight, they are also available in wavy and curly textures.

Wefts are typically available in most lengths desired. If made from human hair, a hair weft may be cut, straightened, dyed, curled, or treated otherwise as real hair. Some synthetic wefts may be treated similarly, though others may break down or yield results other than the ones intended, such as discoloration.

Many people apply hair extensions for long-term use. Though a hair weft can be used repeatedly for long-term use, it can also be attached as a temporary application. Some people use hair wefts as such for party costumes, theater performances, and other short-term needs. Most hair wefts cover a limited area of the scalp, hence many people opt to purchase four to six wefts to create a uniform appearance.

Most customers who use a hair weft for long-term needs prefer very realistic or human extensions. High-quality hair wefts made from real human hair are known as remy hair. Remy hair retains its cuticle layer from its original host, making it appear more natural than synthetic or damaged hair. Bases for hair wefts are sealed with a coating, such as polyurethane. There are several different methods used to attach a hair weft to a person's hair. One of the most common methods is applying a special glue to the hair.

Double-sided tape adhesive designed just for hair wefts is also available. This adhesive material can typically last for up to two weeks. Handmade hair wefts may require a skin weft application. This is done through a skin weft sealer tool, which has a similar appearance to a hair straightener.

Color Your Hair Extensions

An easy way to add length and volume to your hair and change your look is to use hair extensions. A lot of women are opting to get hair extensions to improve their looks. Hair extensions though, can be very expensive especially if done in salons. The colors available are also limited but the good news is that you can color your hair extensions safely.

If you want to color your hair extensions, make sure that you buy only those that are made from natural hair. Synthetic hair cannot be dyed as it is made from nylon or polyester. Human hair can be dyed pretty much the same way you dye your own hair, which means that the process is not only similar, but that you can also use different types of hair color for dyeing.

If you buy a box of color from a drugstore,  A box of color will already include a developer, applicator bottle and a pair of gloves for protection.

1.     You may have some experience in dyeing your hair, but you still need to test a strand of the hair extension before you start the dye job. This is because the hair used in the extension may react differently. Take a small group of strands of the hair extension and clip it to separate it from the rest of hair. Mix half a spoon of dye and half a spoon of developer application and apply the mixture with gloves on. Wait for some time as specified in the instructions that come with the bottle and rinse the hair to see the effect.

2.     Before you start to color your hair extension, Before you color your hair, comb and untangle it. Pay particular importance to this because even a small tangle will result in uneven coloring of that portion of the hair extension and will look odd when you wear it. Also make sure there are no styling products on to the hair extension before coloring it. Shampoo the hair extension to remove styling products (if any) and let it dry on a towel. Use an old towel, as this one is going to get stained when you are through.

3.     Apply color evenly to each strand. After you've applied the hair color, put it on top of a towel and let it dry. Refer to the coloring box for instructions on how long you should wait before you rinse out.

4.     Use warm water and rinse thoroughly to remove the hair color. Apply conditioner and let it remain for three minutes before you rinse again. A conditioner is usually included in a coloring box.

5.     Use a wide-toothed comb to gently untangle the extension while it is still wet.

Tips to take care of Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are wonderful. You can add length to your hair or a beautiful streak of color. They can cover a bad cut or color and tie your hair in a ponytail. With all the glorious things they can do, can you return the favor? Proper care of extensions ensure they'll be around for a while.

1.) Wash your extensions. Gently! Your fake hair soaks up oils made by your head naturally. This can make your extensions greasy and fibers may fall out. To wash them, soak it in warm water in the bathroom sink. Cover them with a clarifying shampoo and rinse out with cold water. Do not comb or brush extensions when wet because this will rip out hairs and lead to a shorter life for them.
2.) Keep them moisturized, especially when you style extensions often. When your extensions are dry, comb a little bit of leave-in conditioner evenly. Don't overdo it because they'll become greasy easier than your natural locks.

3.) Make extensions tangle-free. Gently untangle dry extensions with a wide tooth comb.

4.) Only use stylers when your extensions are dry. Never blow dry extensions. You can always put them in when the rest of your hair is dry. If necessary, curl and straighten extensions for about half the time it takes the rest of your hair. Put them on your head when you're done styling your natural hair. This will keep hairs from falling out.

If you can, get two sets of the same extensions. Keep one pair "just for curling" and one "just for straightening." This will cut down on style time and damage.

5.) Only wear extensions in a ponytail if they were made to. Some extensions will fall apart in a ponytail. Read the labeling when buying new extensions to see if you can use them in a ponytail. If it doesn't say whether or not you can, best be on the safe side and not use them in ponytails.

Sewing Procedure Of Hair Extensions

There are several ways to add extensions to the hair. One common way is sewing. To sew hair extensions, you will need to know how to braid or to have someone available who can. You will also need thread and a special needle that can generally be purchased at beauty supply stores.

Before you sew hair extensions into your hair, it is best to wash your hair. Having a clean scalp is important because it can reduce or eliminate intense itching you may otherwise experience. It is important for the hair to be clean; if it is soiled with products such as hair spray or gel it may not be very manageable. After you wash the hair, be sure to dry it, otherwise it may begin to smell bad after you sew hair extensions into it.

To sew hair extensions effectively, you need something to attach them to. In most instances, this is going to be a braid. You will need to cornrow braid the areas of the hair where you want to put the hair extensions. It is best to make the braids skinny and to place them fairly close together. When the braids are skinny, this prevents a look of bulkiness. When the braids are spaced close together, you will be able to overlap the extensions in a manner that looks more natural.

When braiding the hair, it is also important to consider the style you hope to achieve when you are finished. In some instances it may be suitable to cornrow braid the hair from front to back. In other instances the hair may need to be braided from one side to the other. If you plan to have a part or bangs, for example, this must be considered.

Once you have finished the braiding, you will be ready to sew the hair extensions in. Begin by holding the end of one of your hair extensions to the beginning of one of your cornrow braids. Use the needle to draw the thread through the track of the extension and through the braid. Pull it so the extension is closely connected to the braid. You need to continue sewing the thread through the extension’s track and your braid until you reach the end of a row.

If your extensions continue past your braid, when you come to the end of the braid, you must cut your extensions. Then you will need to cut the thread, but before you do, you need to sew a tight knot at the end of the row that will prevent the thread from unraveling. Then, cut any dangling thread and proceed to the next row until you have finished sewing in your hair extensions.
