Hair straightening is an art or a hair styling technique that was predominantly used in United States in the mid 1990s and became more popular and a modern fashion technique. It’s a technique which involves the flattening and straightening of hair in order to make it more streamlined, smooth and give a sleek appearance. This can be achieved by many techniques like hair irons, hot combs, ceramic relaxers, hair gel and shampoos.

There are different types of hair straighteners which will serve the purpose of straightening the curly hair without damaging the hair. The ceramic plates are capable of evenly distributing the heat making the styling task hassle free. It is also effective in straightening the hair cuticles. This gives long lasting results. This works by breaking down the hair's hydrogen bonds found in the hair's cortex, which cause hair to bend and become curly. Once the bonds are broken, hair is prevented from holding its original, natural form, though the hydrogen bonds can re-form if exposed to moisture.

Chrome Hair straighteners: This is most preferred by women’s across markets as this is relatively inexpensive. This works out fine for those who don’t do this straightening on a daily basis. The heat generated form this may harm the hair, so very good for occasional purposes. Avoid using this if your hair is dry or chemically treated.

Gold hair straighteners: This works out fine for everyday use. It doesn't leave your hair dry and dull. It even eliminates the frizz from your hair. This is more costly than chrome plating however more reasonable than ceramic plating. This is best for normal and thick hair.
