Sewing Procedure Of Hair Extensions

There are several ways to add extensions to the hair. One common way is sewing. To sew hair extensions, you will need to know how to braid or to have someone available who can. You will also need thread and a special needle that can generally be purchased at beauty supply stores.

Before you sew hair extensions into your hair, it is best to wash your hair. Having a clean scalp is important because it can reduce or eliminate intense itching you may otherwise experience. It is important for the hair to be clean; if it is soiled with products such as hair spray or gel it may not be very manageable. After you wash the hair, be sure to dry it, otherwise it may begin to smell bad after you sew hair extensions into it.

To sew hair extensions effectively, you need something to attach them to. In most instances, this is going to be a braid. You will need to cornrow braid the areas of the hair where you want to put the hair extensions. It is best to make the braids skinny and to place them fairly close together. When the braids are skinny, this prevents a look of bulkiness. When the braids are spaced close together, you will be able to overlap the extensions in a manner that looks more natural.

When braiding the hair, it is also important to consider the style you hope to achieve when you are finished. In some instances it may be suitable to cornrow braid the hair from front to back. In other instances the hair may need to be braided from one side to the other. If you plan to have a part or bangs, for example, this must be considered.

Once you have finished the braiding, you will be ready to sew the hair extensions in. Begin by holding the end of one of your hair extensions to the beginning of one of your cornrow braids. Use the needle to draw the thread through the track of the extension and through the braid. Pull it so the extension is closely connected to the braid. You need to continue sewing the thread through the extension’s track and your braid until you reach the end of a row.

If your extensions continue past your braid, when you come to the end of the braid, you must cut your extensions. Then you will need to cut the thread, but before you do, you need to sew a tight knot at the end of the row that will prevent the thread from unraveling. Then, cut any dangling thread and proceed to the next row until you have finished sewing in your hair extensions.

Tape Hair Extensions

Tape hair extensions are temporary hair extensions that use double-sided tape to attach the extensions to a person's real hair. The tape comes in different types and strengths but is usually clear and flexible. Tape can be used for both human hair and synthetic extensions and allows one to reuse the hair more easily compared to more lasting hair extension methods. This makes taped extensions useful for many types of hairstyles.

A Tape hair extension is a hairpiece made from human hair, and can be attached to the wearer's scalp by a specialized tape system. This product design allows for the temporary placement of one or more bands of natural hair in order to thicken the base or lengthen the style. The Tape system differs from conventional hair extensions because there is no gluing. The piece holds in place with double-sided tape, making the application process very straightforward.

How to apply Tape Hair Extensions:-

 1. Part the hair into sections, exposing the upper most region of hair near the scalp. Use a comb to create horizontal parts in the hair and clip them with a hair clip. Parts only the area where you intend to install the extension.

2 Pull the label off the skin weft extension tape to expose one sticky side. This is double-sided tape with adhesive on both sides. Leave one side of the tape cover until ready to attach the extension.

3 Apply the exposed side of the tape to the uppermost section of hair next to the scalp. Do not apply tape directly to the scalp, but to the hair nearest that area. Tape will stick to skin once it clears the natural hair.

4 Pull off the other side of the double-sided tape. This is the side facing away from the natural hair.

5 Press the extension on to the exposed side of the tape. Run your finger over the extension attached to the tape to secure it.

Press down a hair straightener over the tape area for about 5 seconds, or hold a hair dryer over it. It melts the glue a tiny bit into your hair which just makes it that bit more secure and ensures no way of them falling out, there is nothing more annoying than that. Also, please make sure you use Indian hair extensions. It doesn't matter so much for clip ins, but remember these are in your hair permanently.

The process for removing tape hair extensions usually involves using a special spray or bottle of solution to weaken the tape's bond and remove any remaining residue from the natural hair. Some of the products used are also commonly used for removing glued hair extensions and can take some time to completely remove the wefts from the hair. There's also a risk of damage if one pulls too hard on the extensions when trying to get them out. One should keep in mind that some types of tape are much weaker and can be much easier to remove.

Asian hair will not last as long and will mat up with your own hair and tangle. Indian hair won't. Also MAKE SURE it is remy hair.

Benefits of Wearing Hair Weaves

There was a time when celebrities were the only women who wore or could afford to wear hair weaves. Back then, the fact that the hair on their heads didn't actually grow out of their scalps was a hush-hush affair.

Not anymore! Today, many women experiment with hair additions in every length, color and texture. Instead of simply being a way to add inches and volume to your style, hair weaves have become a way to introduce variety to your style repertoire. Plus, there are some useful benefits to wearing hair weaves.

1. Low Maintenance
Maybe you don't have a lot of time to spend styling your hair and are looking for low-maintenance options besides a short cut. Wearing a hair weave will allow you to style your hair in a hurry, perfect for time-crunched mornings. Synthetic hair comes pre-styled, so all you really have to do is fluff it and go. Human hair weaves offer more versatility than synthetics, but are still generally easy to care for.
Weaves are good for vacation-hair. You can relax and enjoy your getaway without spending precious minutes or hours on hair styling.
2. Protective

In the case of sewn-in hair weaves, hair is typically braided close to the scalp and extension hair is added in wefts. The extension hair takes the daily wear-and-tear, so your natural hair is protected from the elements and styling practices. Your hair won't have to suffer the heat from blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons or hot rollers. It won't be affected by harsh weather or cotton pillowcases. Your hair will be protected from all of those routines and outside influences that can slowly split the ends and dry it out. It's one of the protective styles that will do your hair good, with proper care while you wear it.

3. Low Commitment

Weaves are designed to be worn for a short amount of time, anywhere from one day to a couple of months. Unlike a haircut, which you have to wait on to grow out, hair weaves are low commitment options. If you're not crazy about how your weave style looks on you, you can either ask your stylist to change it up or remove it. You're not stuck with a weave forever, which is perfect for women who like to switch things up often.

4. Experimentation

Want a new color? Or see how you look with naturally kinky locks? How about trying an ultra-short cut without having to snip your long tresses? Hair weaves can do all of this and much more!

Now you can experiment with color without worry of damage to your own hair. This can be especially helpful to women who have to be careful about the types of chemicals they use on their locks. Platinum blonde is a particularly harsh shade for black hair, so being able to weave it in, while your hair stays protected, is a great benefit for those of you who've always wondered if blondes have more fun.

This experimental benefit also works for natural-haired women who want a straight look without applying heat or relaxers.

The Difference Between A Lace & A Silk Closure

Its still winter and we are still protective styling to keep our natural hair safe from the harsh elements and weather. Many people choose to use wigs and sew in weaves as a means of protective styling. This form of protective styling can come with a lace closure which is a means of extra protection that blends in naturally while giving you a natural looking part/scalp. This takes away the increased possibility of damaging your leave out especially when you have a sew in installed. But as always in the natural hair community there’s things you need to know before making a decision about what is best for you and what will work for you. Lace & silk closures differ in how they are constructed.

Lace Closure: Lace closures are usually made of a thinner material that can sometimes cause the braids under neath to be visible if looked at closely. To solve that problem it is recommended that a flesh colored stocking cap be worn under the hair piece over the braids. The biggest issue… well my biggest issue with lace closures is the color of the knots. The knots are often very dark at the base of the piece therefore giving off a wiggy unrealistic look. How is this problem solved? I’m sure you’ve heard or seen many people “bleach” the knots. You must be careful when bleaching your own knots or buying a closure that has bleached knots as this can turn the scalp a rusty orange color that will also look unrealistic.

Silk Closure: Silk closures are made of a thicker material which means it is less likely or almost impossible to see what is going on under the wig or weave hair. This gives a bit of a more realistic or natural appearing part. However because silk closures usually only come in one shade or color you will have to blend the part with a form of make up to match your skin color at the part. The biggest issue or inconvenience of silk closures is because of the thick material you will have a line of demarcation around the hair line that you will have to blend or pull a bit of hair out from the front to blend/hide.

So pretty much it is up to you to decide as both closures have their pros and cons. Make an informed decision which closure will work best for the style you are going for, and give you the most natural look.

Lace Fronts

The most recent development in weave extensions are lace fronts. Lace fronts are made from a nylon mesh material formed into a cap that is then hand-ventilated by knotting single strands of hair into the tiny openings of the cap, giving the hair a more natural and authentic continuity than typical extensions. Furthermore, the extension units can be woven in or attached to a person's hairline with special adhesives. To ensure a proper fit, head measurements are taken into account with this type of weave. A lace frontal is best placed by a professional since more advanced weaving and hair extensions are used. This method is commonly used by women around the world because it makes it possible to have access to a certain part of their scalp and at the same time giving a natural and attractive look.

Fused Hair Extensions

Fused hair extensions are hair extensions that are fused on to the natural hair using one of two methods, the hot fusion method or the cold fusion method. Fusion hair extensions are performed for aesthetic reasons to add volume and length to the existing hair, and it is important to get the procedure done by a certified and experienced hair stylist. Professional hair extensions can generally last for a period of three to six months, and some amount of maintenance and tightening may be required in this duration.

The hair stylist will first examine your hair and advise regarding which fusion hair extension method will suit you. Depending on the method used, getting hair extensions can be a quick or somewhat tedious procedure. The bonding used in both cases is generally transparent and not obvious.

1.  In the hot fusion method, hot glue is used to fuse the hair extensions to the natural hair strand. The glue is heated to a specific temperature and then applied using a glue gun. This procedure is done section by section, and can take up to 16 hours for completion. It needs to be carried out with utmost care to avoid burning or irritating the scalp.

2.  The cold fusion method is gentler on the hair and the scalp, and works well for fine hair. Instead of hot glue and heat, a keratin-based polymer binder is used to attach on the hair extensions. This results in more natural looking hair. These extensions are generally good for about six months.

Since natural hair will continue to grow at its normal rate, the fused hair extensions will have to be adjusted and tightened accordingly. It is a good idea to ask the hair stylist about these and other maintenance requirements at the time of getting fused hair extensions. It is generally possible to shampoo and style the fused hair extensions like regular hair.

Most hair stylists advice against wearing fused hair extensions for longer than six months as there is chance this may damage the natural hair. It is also important to remove the hair extensions with care. At the time of removal, it may seem as if a lot of the natural hair comes off with the extensions; this hair loss is actually the hair that is shed normally on a daily basis, but which hadn't fallen out as usual due to the presence of the hair extensions. It shouldn't be a matter of worry.
